In Eldoret, the Fire Summit will address several critical issues related to energy efficiency and clean energy adoption. The community’s heavy dependence on fossil fuels, such as kerosene and coal, contributes to environmental degradation and air pollution. Access to reliable and affordable clean energy is limited, particularly in rural areas. High initial costs of renewable energy technologies pose significant economic barriers for many households and businesses. There is also a notable lack of public awareness and education regarding the benefits and maintenance of clean energy systems. Weak policy and regulatory support further complicates the transition to renewable energy. Additionally, the existing energy infrastructure needs significant improvements to accommodate and integrate renewable energy sources effectively.

Eldoret Fire Summit 2024
Eldoret, a vibrant town in western Kenya, is known for its rich agricultural landscape, dynamic population, and rapidly growing urban center. The town and its surrounding areas largely rely on traditional biomass and fossil fuels for energy, which has significant environmental and health impacts. The rapid urban growth and increasing energy demands present both a challenge and an opportunity for transitioning to renewable energy sources.
Eldoret’s agricultural economy could greatly benefit from biogas and solar energy solutions, reducing reliance on non-renewable sources and improving sustainability. Additionally, the town’s evolving infrastructure provides a canvas for integrating energy-efficient technologies and practices. The Fire Summit in Eldoret can play a crucial role in educating the community, fostering collaborations, and advocating for policies that support clean energy initiatives.
Overall, the Summit aims to harness Eldoret’s potential, addressing its specific energy challenges, and setting a precedent for sustainable practices in similar communities.
About the FIRE Summit
The FIRE Element focuses on rapidly transitioning to renewable energy sources, clean transportation, and accelerating ways to draw down fossil fuel dependence. Targeting the source of these emissions — namely fossil fuels — and doing so equitably, is the goal of the FIRE element. This FIRE Summit is convening Planeteers in communities around the world to develop campaigns to accelerate our transition away from fossil fuels.
