Selecting a Climate Solution

Each of us have our unique individual reasons that brought us to environmental work. Some people have a special connection to specific species of plant or animal, like sharks or bats or wildflowers, that we really care about; or to a special place in the world, like a river or park or island or forest, that we want to protect. Other people come to this work because they see the injustice in how some people have been disproportionately affected by pollution or development or degradation, and want to fight for justice for these communities. Some people believe it is our responsibility to care for the environment and pass forward a healthy, livable planet to future generations.

Whatever it is that motivates each one of us to be involved in environmental work – that thing is being threatened by climate change.

The Planeteer Alliance is approaching these ten years as a race, and Captain Planet Foundation is running with young environmental advocates and champions around the world to demand and secure the rapid implementation of known solutions that will create a climate positive future for all.

One of the ways that Planeteer Alliance is allowing young people who are passionate about climate to easily tap into climate action is by providing them with ready-made projects. They can use these template projects and modify them to their community. Selecting a climate solution project should definitely be determined by what it is that you and your team of young changemakers are passionate about. Then, you should use the Planeteer Climate Solution Guide, along with more specific research to supplement your knowledge about the issue you have chosen to tackle.

The most important thing to remember is that your climate solution project should be chosen from your interests and your passions! What excites you? What do you want to protect? Is there something or someone in your home, school, community, etc. that makes you feel strongly about the issue you have chosen? If you are passionate about these things, then you will be more inclined to design an effective and impactful solution.
